I have a one-year-old sfinx cat, I have it last June and it's been a dream of mine for YEARs to have one of these cats. I did all my research and knew what I was getting into. I investigated the breeders near me and woke up $1100 for my sleep cat. All I read said Sphynx cats are hyperactive, playful, affectionate, need a fairly high maintenance, and my boy has shown that all these things are true! My boy is the most affectionate and playful cat I've ever seen. I love him to pieces, but it's been a struggle dealing with some of his lesser behaviors. In short, it's a handful. He needs constant attention, meotorgamientos at my door, scrapes every piece of soft material I have, attacks my feet when it happens, when I feel or stay wherever I pick it up and reach or sits on my chest. He throws anything that can move toward the adult, (the other day he had touched on our floor lamp in the living room), he will eat anything that finds interesting (edible or otherwise), I cannot keep plants where he can reach them, he jumps over everything, and he has a really big habit of stepping on his stern and dragging it all over the house around once a month. I love him so much and he's really a sweet kid, he's never been aggressive (except when he's really playful he bites) he's extremely social and loves everyone he knows. Anyway, this is all I'm saying, I'm waiting for a baby this June. I've been trying to stop some of his bad behavior before the baby comes, but he has such a big personality and I'm afraid I won't be able to go with him when the baby comes. He has already shown interest in the baby's room and at any time we open the door to the baby room where he dares. I'm not so worried that he hurts the baby like me that his behaviors will get worse, as all my time and my attention will focus on my newborn and not on him. My intuition tells me you really need another cat to connect so he won't be so needy for the attention of me, but we have a small house and a dog and add a new cat to the mix along with a new baby is out of the question. My husband also works very long hours so I'm basically taking care of everyone for myself, and he's not very fond of the cat because of his bad behavior. Thought has crossed my mind of finding a new home for him, perhaps someone who has sphynx already and other cats with whom he can join, but another part of me wonders if all his behaviors are only for his age and he will calm down in a year or two. Does anyone out there have any advice for me? I feel like I'm doing everything I can for him, but when the baby gets here, he's gonna be in a shock with a lack of attention and I don't want that to result in a badr behavior and resentment towards him. Deputys I just brought home my new girl yesterday to a house with 2 sfinx cats and 3 skin babies. We bought redting, pods, ect to ensure the baby girl was protected from cats. Skin babies can take care less, but sfinx babies are very interested. I let them interact with her under supervision. One of my sphynx is an 8-month kitten and when the baby cries that he runs with her as he wants to help. We let her in the capsule and licked her to comfort her. I have my first sphynx from a shelter where her previous home handed her over because they were pregnant. It broke my heart while Emma Leigh was the center of my universe. I knew that one day we would have a human family, but I made a commitment to LIFE with my cats (open and naked) and through thick and thin, we will make it work. The surrender must be the last absolute resource. Sphynx cats are very smart and amazing cats and I encourage you to watch redting, pods, sccatt dispensers, ect to help protect your human baby. We say we love these babies who become our families, but we say we have them... You all own your family? Just because I paid money for my kids doesn't mean I own them. Maybe even if we didn't possess them, they wouldn't turn into disposable... Now I'll be honest I didn't have the heart to read through the whole post because I'm very sensitive to the reasons for rehoming and it hurts too much but I read enough to ask you this question and I hope it makes you think. When you new human child shows undesirable behavior will you be thinking about rehoming him/her too? I ask you in the hope of making you think... I'm not being unsustainable but getting a pet must be for your life we can't say that we love them then go home because they have the deals we find hard. We should love them just as they love us without conditions unconditional love I know for humans is very difficult but when a little animal loves you they don't sit there thinking they just love you in the time of fun.
